Sunrise Detox:
Position Title: Counselor
Substance Use Disorder Counselor / Therapist
Sunrise Detox & Residential Treatment | Alpharetta & Duluth, Georgia
Full-time | Competitive hourly pay based on credentials and experience | One weekend shift per week required
Position Summary
At Sunrise Detox & Residential Treatment, we believe recovery is supported by evidence-based care and meaningful human connection. Within a strong clinical framework, we encourage our counselors and therapists to bring warmth, creativity, clinical perspective, and authenticity to the therapeutic relationship.
We are seeking compassionate, dependable, competent, and humble clinicians who are confident in their skills, open to learning, and committed to being strong team players. The therapeutic relationship is central to recovery, and we value clinicians who can build trust, meet patients where they are, and support them with respect and authenticity.
In this role, you will develop rapport with patients during medically supervised detoxification and residential substance use disorder treatment. You will listen without judgment, help patients feel seen and understood, and create a supportive environment where they can explore the factors contributing to their substance use and identify what they need to move forward.
Residential stays may last up to four weeks, allowing you to build continuity and see therapeutic relationships develop over time. Rather than limiting your work to brief interventions, you will remain engaged with patients as they strengthen motivation, build confidence, practice new skills, and prepare for continued recovery after discharge.
You will support patients as they develop practical skills for managing cravings, emotions, relationships, communication, boundaries, and daily challenges. Through individual counseling, therapeutic groups, treatment planning, and ongoing encouragement, you will help patients recognize their strengths and take ownership of their recovery at a pace that is clinically appropriate for them.
Sunrise offers clinicians the opportunity to use their professional judgment and bring their own clinical perspective to treatment. You will have the autonomy to shape interventions, respond to each patient’s needs, and adjust your approach as trust and insight develop. At the same time, you will work within a collaborative care model alongside medical, nursing, and other clinical professionals.
Interdisciplinary collaboration gives you the opportunity to contribute your expertise, learn from other areas of practice, and help ensure that patients receive consistent, patient-centered support throughout their care. By combining clinical best practices, clinical autonomy, teamwork, and therapeutic connection, you can help patients leave treatment with greater confidence, practical recovery skills, and a clearer plan for continuing care.
Professional Growth and Supervision
Sunrise is committed to helping clinicians continue developing their skills and credentials. Supervision is available for multiple levels of CAC and NCAC credentialing through a Certified Clinical Supervisor, as well as LPC supervision for eligible clinicians. These opportunities provide structured support, professional guidance, and a welcoming environment for counselors and therapists working toward their next level of growth.
Whether you are an experienced clinician or continuing to build your professional path, you will have opportunities to receive feedback, strengthen your clinical skills, bring your creativity to the work, and learn alongside a supportive team.
